Phases of the Seven Moons

by Mary Ellen Talley

Light most cherished in darkness
waxing crescent
My whole perspective has changed
first-quarter moon
She said a whole lotta prayers
waxing gibbous
I get so lonely evenings
full moon
The short-term memory thing
waning gibbous
It’s so annoying
third-quarter
Blessed anxiety the beast
waning crescent
The burden shuts open doors
new moon
on the lam body slam
waxing crescent
The burden opens shut doors
first-quarter
A casket is the omen
waning gibbous
No matter – ashes scatter
third-quarter
here there everywhere elsewhere
waning crescent
souls deliver rivers home
full moon
light white river’s edge in sight
